frequently asked questions: Therapy
Do you take insurance?
Currently I accept the following insurances: Blue Cross Blue Shield, Anthem, The Alliance, Aetna, Cigna, WPS, and WI Medicaid (BCBS). For other insurances, I will be able to offer you a receipt to request reimbursement from your insurance carrier if applicable. Typically, this is acceptable if your insurance provides benefits or coverage for out of network therapists. I encourage you to contact your insurance provider and inquire about this.
Furthermore, I can accept FSA or HSA accounts as payment. Please contact your FSA/HSA provider to determine if they provide coverage. If you want to see my rates, then please click here.
How do I find the right therapist in Madison?
Quite frankly, there is no straightforward way to answer this. Really what matters most is that you feel like you are getting the help you need. Sometimes that requires you to examine what is it that you would like help with and identifying someone who specializes in that. If you take advantage of a therapists consultation, it can be important to be prepared with questions you would like to discuss. If you would like to see an article that shares some questions to ask a therapist, then click here.
It is always a good idea to take a therapist up on their offer of a free consultation to get a feel for them as a person and their style. It can be incredibly nerve wracking reaching out to a stranger, I get that. However, how you feel after the consultation will give you the information that you need! Do you feel more at ease? Do you feel heard? Do you feel like they are able to help you? Exploring how you feel after our phone call can help you determine if they are the right fit.
You can schedule your free consultation with me here.
How do I start therapy with you?
First, you can contact me either by phone, email, or by filing out some information on my contact page. Chances are if you call me, you will get my confidential voicemail so please leave your name and number and I will give you a call back within 24-hours. If you are experiencing a crisis or an emergency I encourage you to call 9-1-1, contact your local crisis line, or contact your primary care physician.
Next, we will schedule a free 20-minute telephone consultation where you can briefly share or summarize why you are seeking therapy. You will also have the opportunity to ask me any questions you might have. Your consultation is a short “get to know ya” for you to determine if you would like to continue with me. As any therapist will tell you, being able to feel connected to your therapist is important in your mental health journey. I want to offer you this opportunity to help make that decision.
After the initial consultation we will schedule your first appointment. I will ask for your email in order to send you the link to my HIPAA compliant teletherapy platform. This is where you will electronically sign some basic intake paperwork. It will also ask you to put in your Credit Card, Debit Card, or FSA/HSA card information. It is important to note that you will be billed on the day of your appointment.
If you would like to see my cancellation and no show policy then please click here. Next, you will receive a questionnaire in order for me to better understand you. I will review these prior to our first appointment.
The teletherapy platform is quite easy to navigate, however, if you have any difficulty you can always contact me.
What happens during the first therapy session?
The first therapy appointment is for you to share your story. You can start wherever you feel like would be best for me to understand you better. You will also be encouraged to elaborate further on what was shared during your consultation and we will also start to explore goals. Another important area is deciding if you feel like we would be a good fit for your success in therapy. This first appointment is for us to establish a relationship that will be the foundation of us working together.
How long do therapy appointments last?
Therapy appointments are typically 50-minutes.
How often are therapy appointments?
To begin, I encourage us to meet once a week. I find it important when beginning therapy to build some momentum to create lasting change. We will continue to assess when it would be best to reduce appointment frequency.
